Leveraging Zapper’s streamlined digital payment solutions, the partnership seeks to raise awareness and drive donations for Mr Price Foundation’s Hope4Youth campaign.</p>
<p>By making donating as simple as scanning a QR code, Zapper breaks down barriers to giving, empowering individuals and businesses to seamlessly support Mr Price Foundation’s transformative youth development programmes. </p>
<p>Founded by Mr Price Group 20 years ago as a registered non-profit, Mr Price Foundation stands out as a leader in youth empowerment. Donations will directly support the Foundation’s mission to empower youth (aged 15-34) with sustainable economic opportunities.</p>

<p><strong>Empowering youth through tech</strong></p>
<p>Since its launch in 2014, <a href="https://www.zapper.com/in-person-payments/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zapper</a> has established itself as a trusted leader in South Africa’s digital payment space, serving over 1 million customers and connecting to 15 million more through partner apps. </p>
<p>By harnessing this significant reach, Zapper is set to raise R500,000 in support of Mr Price Foundation’s <a href="https://www.mrpricefoundation.org/impact-insights/impact-stories/mr-price-foundation-creates-hope4youth/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hope4Youth </a>initiative by the end of 2025.</p>
<p>“At Zapper, we’re on a mission to use our technology not only to facilitate transactions but to drive meaningful social change. By creating a platform where donations can flow effortlessly into the Foundation’s proven youth development programmes, we’re making it easier than ever for our community to support South Africa’s youth,” said Zapper CEO Mike Bryer. </p>
<p><strong>Building on two decades of impact</strong></p>
<p>With a commitment to being “Your Youth Empowerment Champion”, the Foundation has made significant strides in combating youth unemployment since 2005. South Africa’s youth unemployment crisis affects 45.5% of youth, aged 15-34. Challenges such as inadequate access to quality education, a skills mismatch, slow economic growth and structural inequalities underline the urgent need to expand initiatives like Hope4Youth.</p>
<p>“Through our partnership with Zapper, we have the chance to accelerate our programmes and rapidly extend our reach to more young people,” said Mr Price Foundation Executive Director Octavius Phukubye. </p>
<p>“If every Zapper user and merchant contributes a small donation, we can drive a monumental shift for youth economic inclusion and economic growth aspirations,” Phukubye said.</p>
<p><strong>Transforming lives through Hope4Youth</strong></p>
<p>Donations raised will directly benefit the Foundation’s three flagship youth empowerment programmes: <a href="https://www.mrpricefoundation.org/jumpstart-retail-skills-programmes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">JumpStart</a>, <a href="https://www.mrpricefoundation.org/uplift/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">UpLift</a>, and <a href="https://www.mrpricefoundation.org/edurise-schools-programme/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">EduRise</a>. </p>
<p>Since 2015, JumpStart has developed over 57,000 youth, with over 30,000 participants successfully transitioning into jobs. Offering a suite of demand-led work-readiness programmes in key labour intensive sectors, including retail, manufacturing and tourism, <strong><u>JumpStart </u></strong>trained 7,252 unemployed youth in FY2024, with 90% securing employment at leading retail partners.</p>
<p>Another 154 aspiring youth entrepreneurs were supported in FY2024 through the <a href="https://www.mrpricefoundation.org/uplift/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>UpLift entrepreneurship programme,</strong></a> which develops and supports sustainable small businesses, scale-ups and startups across various sectors, including retail, recycling, agnostic, and technology.</p>
<p>The EduRise programme, which focuses on enhancing tech-led literacy and numeracy and entrepreneurship development, impacted 25,214 learners and 40 lower socio-economic primary schools in FY2024, addressing the root cause of poor education and skills gaps. </p>
<p><strong>Driving national engagement</strong></p>
<p>Through Zapper’s advanced in-app technology, including push notifications and geo-targeted messages, the Hope4Youth campaign will reach a national audience, making it easy for South Africans to engage and contribute.</p>

<p>Users can upload their loyalty and membership cards to the Zapper app by finding the feature under the &#8220;Loyalty&#8221; quadrant, scanning any loyalty card barcodes, selecting from a curated list of popular retailers, or manually inputting the card details. At checkout, users open the Zapper app, select the card, and scan it directly from their phone, and then going straight to complete payment to conclude the journey.</p>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><p dir="ltr"><a href="http://www.luno.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Luno</a> customers are now able to pay using crypto at over 31,000 merchants in the <a href="https://www.zapper.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zapper</a> payments network across the country, ranging from Dis-Chem pharmacies and FlySafair to fuel stations, educational institutions, bill payments, parking, donations and more. This opens a huge market for South Africans to pay for goods and services using crypto, according to licensed financial service provider and South Africa’s largest crypto investment app, Luno.</p>
<p>Tarris Arnold, Luno’s business development manager, says, “We are delighted to be the first crypto asset service provider in South Africa collaborating with Zapper. This allows our customers to use the Luno app to pay anywhere Zapper QR codes are used.”</p>
<p>“Currently the biggest use case for crypto in South Africa is investment, but the ability to pay at such a wide variety of merchants using crypto is a giant step closer to the original vision of using crypto to pay for goods and services.” <img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2952 size-medium alignright" src="https://tribebusinessmagazine.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Tarris-Arnold-Luno-Business-Development-Manager-219x300.jpeg" alt="" width="219" height="300" /></p>
<p>Luno customers can simply use the Luno app to scan any Zapper QR code at merchant points of sale or online to pay using the crypto in their Luno wallets. Payment limits on Luno Pay are up to R100,000 per transaction.</p>

Slipper Day, <a title="" href="https://reachforadream.org.za/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reach For A Dream</a>‘s biggest fundraiser, returns on 31 May 2024, promising a day filled with warmth and generosity—all in support of children with life-threatening illnesses.</p>
<p>Since its inauguration in 2011, Slipper Day has become a nationwide movement where everyone from office workers to school children band together to make dreams come true for children with critical diseases like cancer, renal failure, and heart conditions, simply by buying a R20 sticker and wearing it with some comfy slippers on the day.</p>
<p>This year’s theme, “Step into My Slippers,” focuses on empathy, fun, and stepping into the shoes (or rather, slippers) of these brave children. By trading your shoes for slippers, you’re stepping into these youngsters’ world, showing them that they are not alone in this fight.”</p>

<p>All funds raised from Slipper Day go to the Reach For A Dream Foundation, a non-profit organisation that makes dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses. Since its inception in 1988, the Foundation has turned more than 27,670 dreams into reality. These dreams—ranging from meeting personal heroes to experiencing new things for the first time—provide the children with a temporary escape from their illness and a much-needed distraction from often painful medical treatments. Most importantly, fulfilled dreams inspire hope, giving these children a reason to believe that tomorrow is worth fighting for.</p>

In fact, the current global <a href="https://weareprocarrier.com/news/article/global-ecommerce-sales-growth-in-2023-and-beyond" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://weareprocarrier.com/news/article/global-ecommerce-sales-growth-in-2023-and-beyond&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1679460309590000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3pcBgd-mjKfKpMXrhhErf7">e-commerce market is valued at around $5.5 trillion</a> (R101 trillion), and it is estimated that online retail sales will soon reach $6.7 trillion (R123 trillion) by the end of this year, with <a href="https://magenest.com/en/ecommerce-statistics-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://magenest.com/en/ecommerce-statistics-2022/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1679460309590000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1VV85gHgq4VVZCqo0GAqsI">e-commerce making up 22.3% of those sales</a>.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><a href="https://www.bizcommunity.com/Article/196/394/225985.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.bizcommunity.com/Article/196/394/225985.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1679460309590000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1jg7fn6cG5hMXEGankZ-M0">Data</a> from 2022 provided by FNB Merchant Services indicated that the online e-commerce market in South Africa has experienced rapid growth and is presently valued at almost R200 billion annually, with retailers such as Takealot, Woolworths, and Checkers, adapting to evolving consumer trends. Statistics from FNB show that total online sales in 2020 jumped by 55% and another 42% in 2021, driven by increased spending in less traditional e-commerce industries. South Africa’s e-commerce market will reach more than R400 billion by 2025 on the back of more than 1 billion transactions per annum.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As this unfolds in South Africa, businesses are working hard to position themselves for success by catering to customer needs and following key global e-commerce trends.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>How mobile apps are reshaping the e-commerce industry</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Mobile apps are now a fundamental component of retail, as they provide customers with a convenient and engaging way to shop from their phones. The past couple of years has been rocket fuel for digital transformation, providing an opportunity for the retail industry to innovate. Whilst global trends continue to point to the user growth of Facebook, TikTok and Instagram, the trends underneath the headlines highlight significant opportunities to drive new customer acquisition, which in turn demands a targeted customer retention strategy from companies.</p>
<p dir="ltr">According to research from Baymard Institute, <a href="https://www.bigcommerce.co.uk/articles/ecommerce/abandoned-carts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.bigcommerce.co.uk/articles/ecommerce/abandoned-carts/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1679460309590000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0prQW4wOga2y0audmAXsmy">69.82% of online shopping carts are abandoned</a>, and with demand expected to continue, pressure is growing on retailers to expand current offerings and create personalised experiences to tackle this. One of the big challenges e-commerce companies face, though, is analysing and maximising behaviour of users, and bringing down the cost of their marketing and engagement against how much is earned through a customer making a purchase.</p>
<p dir="ltr">To meet customer demand, mobile apps offer a variety of features such as push notifications, product recommendations, exclusive discounts and offers, and easy checkout processes, to make the shopping experience easier for customers. By leveraging the power of mobile technology, brands can create an immersive shopping experience tailored specifically to their customer’s needs, and this in turn helps increase customer loyalty, customer return rates, and maximise online revenue.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>How to retarget, re-engage and retain customers in 2023 and beyond</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Brands should focus on re-engaging with returning consumers through a personalised strategy as this can help increase the lifetime value of users, which in turn helps brands bring the cost of their marketing down, knowing that brand loyalty has been achieved. Today, consumers need a more ‘human’ touch, i.e., smart product suggestions based on buying history &amp; behaviour that helps build a one-to-one relationship between brand and buyer. In particular, push notifications haven’t just enhanced personalisation but also <a href="https://www.invespcro.com/blog/push-notifications/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.invespcro.com/blog/push-notifications/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1679460309591000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0XAsre7ZFZQo8tBgID8ATq">increased app engagement by up to 88%.</a> Push notifications have also proven to get disengaged users back, too, with <a href="https://www.invespcro.com/blog/push-notifications/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.invespcro.com/blog/push-notifications/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1679460309591000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0XAsre7ZFZQo8tBgID8ATq">65% returning to an app within 30 days of the push notification</a>.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Another strategy to consider is the option of adding buy now, pay later (BNPL) options at checkouts for customers. Brands that add the option of financing at the checkout allow customers to spread the cost over time, which according to Klarna has resulted in a <a href="https://ecommercefastlane.com/reduce-abandoned-carts-with-buy-now-pay-later/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://ecommercefastlane.com/reduce-abandoned-carts-with-buy-now-pay-later/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1679460309591000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1ZIwquumkyj6Opir2gpXfV">30% increase in checkout conversation rates.</a></p>
<p dir="ltr">Publisher platforms allow brands to leverage their reach and sticky user base. Especially with open platforms such as <span class="il">SHAREit</span>, which can help e-commerce brands create a strong revenue conversion with higher average order value with unique retargeting and user acquisition solutions. Because users are not just sharing product links, but also sharing ecommerce apps and deals among their community. Users of these publisher platforms are also encouraged to share products and apps through platform activities.</p>

<p>Before becoming the profound Female artist she is today, Lira had first tried pursuing a career in accounting however her love for music was stronger. Since being discovered by Arthur Mafokate in 2000, Lira has made her mark gaining multiple accolades in her music career not only in South Africa but all over the world. South African artist did not just stop in South Africa, her music was recognised all over the world starting with her Feel Good album that was released in Italy in 2007. Lira has spread her wings quite wide because she is not only a musician but an actress as well, who played the supporting lead role in an Italian Film that was a collaboration between SA and</p>
<p>Italy. Touring around the world expressing herself through her music and taking her fans into her life behind the scenes with her documentary called “Lira-Dream Chaser” has made her even more loved by the rest of the world. Lira discussed this and more with Tribe Business Magazine.</p>
<p>■ From performing live at the age of 16 to performing at the Grammys in 2020, where did your love for music start and who inspired you?</p>
<p>I did not perform at the Grammy’s, I performed at an event with voting members of the Grammy’s, during the Grammy weekend, which is a great platform to introduce yourself and your work to people who can one day vote for you if you are nominated for a Grammy. My love and appreciation for music started in Wattville in Ekurhuleni where I was born. There was always music being played at the Shabeen down the street or at some house in the neighbourhood, typically with the speakers blasting so we could all hear. I loved how music would capture everyone in some form or another. Children would dance, mothers would sing along unconsciously as they passed by on the way home from work, and the odd drunk guy would stop and break into a dance to entertain us the kids playing in the street. Music coloured our world in a way that captivated me as a child. I could see that it was a form of outlet for everyone and I think this is what made me want to be a musician- I wanted to write the kinds of songs that would move people, young an old and uplift them the same way I witnessed in my youth.</p>
<p><strong>We as the audience only see the final product of music. What are the challenges you face when composing and creating music?</strong></p>
<p>In the creation of music I hardly see the process as a challenge – it’s actually a wonderful creative process. Perhaps something that might be a challenge is capturing what you’re trying to convey through a song with lyrics that make sense, that rhyme and that work with a melody. Finding the right words can take a while, you may know what kind of feeling you want to capture but translating a feeling into words can be challenging. I have found that through the years, it is of great value to write with several people in the room so that you can share ideas- this makes it easier and quicker. Once this process is done, you create the perfect music to capture the mood and the feeling- oftentimes a listener will connect to the music and melody before they pay attention to the words, so this is very important.</p>
<p><strong>With always doing tours and traveling, how do you juggle work life and family time?</strong></p>
<p>Luckily, most touring and performances happen from Thursdays to Sundays, leaving the rest of the week open to more family life. Even though we do work in the office most times, I’m still able to spend time with my loved ones and to cook or go out for a meal. I feel I have a good balance there.</p>
<p><strong>What was the vision behind creating your documentary ‘Lira – Dream Chaser’?</strong></p>
<p>This was sparked by the desire to capture my experiences as I pursued a career internationally. I was being interviewed on CNN, doing magazine shoots , performing on TV morning shows and its was so exciting that it made sense to capture this in order to share with my fans. I also felt that anyone wanting a career in music might benefit from seeing what it takes and the fact that it’s not just glitz and glamour, that it gets rough behind the scenes. The love and passion for it is what keeps us going. It is a fun way to live, that’s for sure.</p>
<p><strong>Not only are you a singer but an actress as well. Tell us more about how you got involved in acting?</strong></p>
<p>I have acted in one feature film in 2010 which was co-produced by an Italian and South African company, written and directed by an Italian director Antonio Falduto which was centred around human trafficking but tells a story of these two women who come from very different backgrounds, brought together by their love for man. It is called The Italian Consul and I played the lead supporting role. It was completely out of my comfort zone but the director has been to South African several times to audition people for this role and he didn’t find what he was looking for. He saw me in an in-flight magazine and thought I looked perfect, he then googled me and found videos of my performances and decided that he would find me so I could audition. I had never acted before but in his mind, the fact that I was a performer meant that I could easily transition into acting, so after about 8 months of us trying to be at the same place at the same time, we met and I was given the script and the chance to audition. He actually came to my office to audition me and thought I could do it. The South African company had their own independent audition which I also passed and so my acting experience began like that. I worked with an acting coach and it was a really great role though it was very challenging, I loved it. I was subsequently offered two more roles where I experienced the challenge of scheduling because I was touring so I had to let them go. I’d love to do it again, time permitting.</p>
<p><strong>What are the challenges that came with producing and performing music during the pandemic?</strong></p>
<p>My attitude around the pandemic, which I initially thought would last a few months was that this would be an opportunity to really take a break and rest. I felt like I’d been running from gig to gig and goal to goal for 18 years without a proper break. This was a time for rest without feeling guilty.It gave me a time to really reflect and appreciate how far I had come and to take stock of where my life is at. By the second month it was clear that we had to find new ways of keeping busy, I had to find an online performing solution. I was in Namibia but I had travelled with my portable studio set up so I did my first online performance which, although it sounded great, was actually disastrous in terms of internet connection and lighting. I had to learn fast and make improvements, but with every performance I gave, there was great improvement. I was performing alone without my band and it was strange performing to a camera with no audience in the room but I felt that I was growing in ways I never expected. I was actually grateful to still be working and reaching audiences. I was performing mainly for corporate, for their conferences which were held online and I did a few public performances. I worked throughout the pandemic.</p>
<p><strong>With the music industry constantly changing, how do you manage to stay true to your own way of making music as opposed to the ever changing trends today?</strong></p>
<p>Now this is a real challenge because I’m aware that change is inevitable, our whole music world has changed. I think I’m still working out what changes are worth making and which ones I can’t, based on the need to retain my essence as an artist.</p>
<p><strong>What has been the highlight of your career since you started up until now?</strong></p>
<p>I’ve had so many. Performing in Washington during Barack Obama’s second inauguration, performing at the opening concert of the World Cup in 2010, my very first arena concert and subsequent arena tour which no other South African female artist has done. The fact that I am the first African Barbie role model are just some of my most favourite highlights.After becoming Barbie’s first African role model, what message do you think it gave black women in the world, especially in Africa? That this is our time, we are being seen for the unique beauty that we each possess. I think it made every black woman see what’s also possible. African is being celebrated globally and Africans can now stand up as who they truly are. It is an exciting time to be African.</p>
<p><strong>With achieving everything you have achieved in the last 19 years whilst being a black female in the music industry and the modelling industry, what is the most important lesson you have learnt that you still live up to today?</strong></p>
<p>I see that my dreams and ambitions are valid, I do see that the things that I saw as struggles and injustices of my experience as a young black female actually fuelled me and helped give me the drive to change things. I now see how it all served me. I have no regrets but I actually appreciate it all. I’m very proud and grateful for where my life is at. Although some challenges remain, my life overall is completely different from what it was when I first started. Our dreams and desires are valid, anything is possible if you’re willing to go for it. </p>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">While subscription-based payment is new within the realm of insurance, young consumers are more than familiar with this payment method, which is frequently engaged by popular brands such Netflix and Spotify.</p>
<p>Prin Munsamy, Solutions Actuary at Metropolitan GetUp, says that this model will enable consumers to cancel or renew their insurance ‘subscription’ at any time, putting the client in full control of their cover.</p>
<p>“Developed with the end-user firmly in mind, GetUp Atom acts as a one-stop solution that offers fast, uncomplicated, comprehensive and affordable funeral cover to policy holders and their families. Subscription is also a ‘once-off’ process; meaning that once someone becomes a Metropolitan GetUp Atom client, they will not need to apply again.”</p>
<p>Inspired by the structure of an atom, the product features core cover and includes benefits such as repatriation, payment protection and cover for up to 20 lives, while its suite of additional benefits, such as cashback and value protection, are optional and can be added or removed according to clients’ needs or life stages.</p>
<p>Another feature that differentiates Atom from other funeral products is its Cover Stretch benefit. Munsamy explains that while traditional funeral products generally lapse after three premium payments are missed, GetUp didn’t want its customers to have this ‘cold experience’, and instead sought to give clients breathing room in times of financial distress.</p>
<p>Says Munsamy, “Life happens and premiums are missed during difficult times. Atom’s Cover Stretch benefit allows one to keep their plan active for up to one year when times are tough, by redeeming ‘Cover Stretch tokens’ &#8211; which are, in essence, an opportunity to miss a premium while still retaining some level of cover.</p>
<p>Munsamy explains that as with all GetUp’s financial solutions, Atom is linked to Life Hacks. “Life Hacks is what we call ‘adulting 101’, which gives customers practical tools to improve their financial position by taking co-accountability for protecting themselves and their loved ones.”</p>
<p>With Atom, customers can also earn up to 10% of their premiums in cash each year for successfully completing certain Life Hacks.</p>
<p>Munsamy explains that GetUp, Metropolitan’s fintech arm, was born out of a desire to put younger, digitally-minded South Africans in control of their finances &#8211; a market that is facing mounting financial pressures &#8211; and he believes that this approach to insurance will pave the way for others in future.</p>
<p>“GetUp is centred around a strong digital offering with omni-channel agility. Flexibility is intrinsic in all products and GetUp’s adaptable offering can be engaged according to the policy holder’s life stage, while communication is simple, clear and easy to understand. There’s absolutely no jargon, fine print or complicated legal speak,” says Munsamy.</p>
<p>He says that as with all GetUp’s solutions, Atom is designed around the needs of the client.</p>
<p>&#8220;We’ve stripped away the stuff that our customers have told us is not important to them, and added new features and flexibility, which add real value to their lives. 				<div class="et_pb_text_inner"><h1 dir="ltr"><strong>Every move comes with extensive knowledge, so don&#8217;t be afraid of change</strong></h1>

<p dir="ltr">One day Ethel Nyembe decided to do a complete 360 degree career turn, and wrapped up an eleven-year media career as the Deputy General Manager for Sales and Marketing for Sunday times in 2004. It was then that she was introduced to a career in banking, where she began a six year tenure at First National Bank. “I think my key motivation has been learning new skills and being driven by new knowledge, the ability to embrace change and have the willingness to transition especially being part of a generation that saw the end of apartheid, and now the global pandemic. I was exposed to learning new skills and had an open mind to learning from customers and bankers at large. I was also able to infuse my existing knowledge with this new knowledge and this helped me to cope with the different demands I had in banking. It also allowed me to bring to the industry what I had learnt in other fields outside of banking,” she says. Her dynamic background largely   contributed to the phenomenal woman she is today.</p>

<p>I would say I was fortunate to have a happy childhood surrounded by family and a number of cousins from both sides of the family! I’m anchored by the servant leadership from my grandparents and parents whose careers ranged from working at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital to priesthood, teaching and domestic help,” she explains. Growing up we’re constantly asked about what we want to be when we grow up, it all feels very one dimension centered and we go through our young lives focused on ending up in that field we desired for as long as we can remember. Very few people have half the courage Nyembe had to leap from one industry to another. “I guess for every role that one has been exposed to in their career, one sometimes does not appreciate or even realise the learning and mastering of different skills. In banking the ability to communicate effectively came in as a bonus, the opportunity to deal with customers became relevant and the fundamentals of doing business continued to be enhanced. And most importantly, the exposure to servant  leadership from my family has allowed me  to relate to a variety of individuals whether  it was in media, public relations or banking. I learnt so much from leaning in with the  people around me. They were as keen to  make me a good banker,” she says.  Nyembe’s career has had several highlights and she acknowledges all of  them because she feels every stage was  necessary to land her where she is today. “I  don’t think there is any one opportunity. I  think every role that I have had the  blessing of fulfilling, has given me  immense highlights. And it is with each  and every highlight, that I have been able  to reflect upon, mentor others and find  amazing growth,” she explains. There has been a predominant rivalry  between legacy banks and new entrant  banks. To stay ahead of their competition,  Standard Bank recently announced that  they want to pivotto become a platform  banking service. This added to the many  years of banking knowledge will allow  them to better serve their customers,  whether it be consumer or business. “This first stage of our pivot sets us into  the future. In addition, the competition  within our country and globally just simply  means that with the right skills and the 150  years that Standard Bank has had serving  customers, we can only embrace  partnerships, embrace the changing  customer journeys, embrace the changing  landscape of business and continue to  thrive, ”she says. Her daily responsibilities at Standard  Bank include but are not limited to. ” working with different squads to solve  customer needs, she works with a number  of colleagues and customers. Women face  countless setbacks because of the  undeniable gender inequality in corporate.  Nyembe has been married for 23 years and  has two children. Juggling a successful  career and family has been one of her greatest blessings. “I am blessed to be married to my  husband who is absolutely supportive. I  have also been blessed to have women around me, who, like Kamala Harris  believed that if they were the first, they  were equally not the last. And so, to  change the dynamics of women in the  workplace, I also believe that if I am the  first to perform a role, I am certainly not  going to be the last. Therefore, I am a part  of the ecosystem geared to ensuring that  women are exposed to skills to be learnt,  and collectively ensure that we change the  dynamic for women as key participants  and leaders in the workplace. I believe that having a great supportive  system at home really helps and it enables  me to show up at work and be the best  mom and wife that I can possibly be. As  the lockdown set in, the work from home  reality brought support and family to the  fore. As women around the world our work  and home has converged making us all  present as parents and wives and many  other roles we play from cooks to teachers.</p>

<p dir="ltr">So, we have been placed in a very  fortunate position on a day to day basis  where we can fully interact with our  families and seamlessly with work,” she  says.</p>
<p dir="ltr">For those who hope to follow in Nyembe’s footsteps, her advice is precise.  “They can certainly tread an even better  path than the one I have travelled. Also,  with the right support, an open mind and  an attitude open to learning forever, they  can achieve everything they have ever  dreamt of and in some cases, even find  themselves in realms they never dreamt  existed.”</p>

<p>In the near future she says we should  look forward to her life being like a  COVID-19 year, a life open to possibilities  and change, despite the negativity floating  around. “With that kind of attitude, what is  to come for Ethel, can only be amazing  and positive,” she concludes. ■</p></div>
